BENETEAU FIRST 27.7 – 4 YEARS OF SUN IN SICILY
Hi Peter, I just installed my Windpilot light. It was the winter inside of the cabin in shelter. The windblade does not move freely and squecks. See video. How to lubricate? Thanks for fast advice. My trip starts.

10 MINUTES LATER: Pertti, the solution is so simple: Siliconspray everywhere and the salt chrystals will dissolve and disappear!

Hi Peter, Thank you for the rapid answer. I was hesitating between WD-40, oil and silicon. Silicon did it and the movement feels normal now
My boat is in Sicily and the water being very salty, I regret not rinsing the vane with sweet water before winter. Next time!

The vane has happily steered my First for four summers in Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily. I cannot imagine sailing without it!

WINDPILOT – AGAIN AND AGAIN
Hi Peter, about ten years ago I bought a Windpilot from you, you delivered it to the States and I put it on using a dinghy while anchored in Long Island Sound. It was a complete game changer for me and I sailed thousands of miles singled handed, it never let me down.

Now I have a small wooden boat, a Holman 26, a folk boat derivative and would like to buy a Pacific Light, what can you offer, do you ever have refurbished Windpilots ?

I hope you are well, we are all getting old. I remember seeing you at the London Boat Show in the late 1970’s.

BOOKS COMMENT – IN THE SERVICE OF AEOLUS
Hi Peter. Your book is one of a class! It reads easily, gives information, it’s entertaining, and the narrative navigates many  unpredictable sharps corners that takes it into the category of a thriller too.
 
I like all and  some parts are at the edge of the impossibility spectrum, like when you describe how got the original Windpilot from an impulse buyer as a trade for your boat, who could replicate that?

 
Your retrospect about  the  boat expo could not be more descriptive , attending as a visitor only a few of them, sufficed  me to stay away from many others and imaging what could be on the expositor side, and you survived two hundred plus!
 
Around here and ,God forbid Newport, Maryland or Florida, those events are becoming an expensive proposal por most of the average sailors, not the tickets by itself ,but the Hotels, transportation and parking.
 
Your snippets about boats , circumstances and people add a lot of spice to the stories with  some sobering aspect about some of them.
 
You had a varied and challenging life, and your legacy is distributed around the world via a magnificent, sculpted aluminum billet , what an amazing triumph!
 
I feel  proud  to own one of your masterpieces and notice my elevated status when other sailors ask me about it.
 
The illustrations , design ,and printing and format of the book are first class . Thank you for your gift, I appreciated it.
 
In them is shown a homemade accessory  that I  installed at the  Pilot power bar to regulate the tension of the line length, replaces the shortening  block provided with the  advantage of not necessitating to remove the line from the eye ropes at both sides below the coamings at the end of the trip.
 
Also I included a few screenshot of the drawings produced prior to installing the Gear in the Cape  paying atención to instructions and  making  sure that all details were understood  before drilling any holes.
 
Happy spring to you and your wife ,  thank you for your help during my orders and  let’s cheer for your new  life  as a writer!

Moin Herr Foerthmann, wir sind gut in Brasilien angekommen und die Windpilot hat wunderbar gesteuert!!

Allerdings ist uns, vermutlich durch das viele Sargassum, das Pendelruder einmal nach hinten weggeklappt und die Nylonschraube (Nummer 438) abgeschert. Wir haben die eine Ersatzschraube montiert die wir hatten, daher brauchen wir wieder eine neue Ersatzschraube.

Da ich im Mai einmal in Deutschland bin, hier die Bitte, sie an unsere Adresse zuzusenden. Wäre das möglich? Gerne vielleicht vorsichtshalber auch gleich zwei davon.

besten Dank für die Rückmeldung … endlich mal ein PACIFIC, die tatsaechlich funktioniert ….

zur Schrauber 438: diese Schraube aus PE habe ich mir damals ausgedacht, um den US Seglern, die Schwierigkeiten mit einer korrekten Ausrichtung des Pendelruderblattes haben … hier ein kleine Hilfe zu geben … eine andere Funktion hat die Schraube nicht, schon gar nicht die Funktion eines shearpins … wenn die Schraube abgeschoren ist … genuegt es zu wissen, wie die richtige Ausrichtung ist ( – IN GERADER LINIE MIT DEM SCHAFT ) …
Ist schon witzig, dass einige US Segler am liebsten um eine ganze Tuete von Ersatz bítten … um exakt die gleiche Erklärung zu erhalten … wie diese.
